For many people, the facts about alcoholism are not clear. What is alcoholism, exactly? How does it differ from alcohol abuse? When should a person seek help for a problem related to his or her drinking?

Alcohol addiction differs from other forms of substance abuse, since it is consisdered legal and socially acceptable. Not only is alcohol consumption considered socially acceptable it is viewed by many as a very positive infulence in many social situations. Many people abuse alcohol regulary. Alcohol Abuse is when you drink to excess. A pattern of constant alcohol abuse is when alcohol abuse becomes alcoholism, or a person becomes and alcoholic. Alcoholism is the chronic abuse of alcohol with disreguard to any negative physical, mental, or social damage.

When Does Social Drinking Become Alcohol Abuse?

There is a fine line between "drug use" and "drug abuse."  Abuse is classified by the continued practice of a substance despite negative behaviors or consequences. 

The Difference Between Social Drinkers and Acloholics

It is when the lines of acceptable behavior become indistinct that the difference between social drinkers and alcoholics are confused. 

Social Issues and Alcoholism

Many times when someone has problems dealing with alcohol or their alcohol addictions, they fail to even think about the social affects of alcoholism.
